There are many benefits of taking part in bodybuilding, which is the reason for it becoming popular. Bodybuilding can help you lose unwanted weight as well as keep depression away. You can also lower the risk of getting devastating diseases such as diabetes and cancer. However, many people give up soon after they begin because they don’t have the right information and make mistakes. The following information will help you and make you want to go to the gym every day.

When it comes to body building, nutrition is just as important, if not more important, than your exercise routine. In fact, without proper nutrition, getting good visual muscle definition is practically impossible just as bulking up is much harder to do without a proper diet. When you are bulking up, you follow a specific eating plan that causes your abs to not be clearly defined. When you are in the cutting phase, after bulking up, the goal is to lose the fat and reveal your abs. The way you eat during each phase is totally different. For the bulking stage, which is where you start, you definitely want to eat more calories than your metabolism needs when your body is at rest. Calorie consumption during this phase is generally 20 times what your body weight is. So, if you weigh 200 pounds, you would need to consume 4000 calories a day. The reduced calorie “cutting” stage comes after the bulk up phase and it’s the more challenging of the two phases you must go through. You cut way back on your carbs – about 1 gram of carbohydrates per pound of body weight – with the exception of fresh fruits. For the best results during the bulk up phase – to increase your muscle mass – you must remember that the quality of the food is more important than the quantity. The foods you eat must be healthy. Don’t eat a diet of junk and processed foods. Complex carbohydrates, fruit, vegetables, good fats, and lean protein are the main ingredients for a good bulking up diet. A good rule of thumb is one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Carbohydrates are experiencing a lot of criticism of late. This is exactly the same thing that happened with fat way back in the 1980s. Eating more carbohydrates each day than your body needs for fuel can lead to fat build up on your body. Normally, your insulin secretion is sufficient to transport the glucose from the carbs into your muscle cells, but if you happen to be insulin resistant, or sensitive, this doesn’t happen. Therefore, if you are severely overweight, you will need to cut out as many carbohydrates as you can to start leaning out. The good news is that carbs can also be very advantageous to the person who is already working out frequently and seriously. If you check your BMI (body mass index) and your level is less than 25%, it would be appropriate to consume 3/4 – 1 gram of carbohydrates each day for each pound of lean body mass. A BMI calculator, free online, can help you figure out your fat percentage and lean body mass. The key, though, is to really be strength training religiously or your cabs will simply turn into fat.

Keep in mind to alternate the area of your body that you exercise – it’s important to train a different body part each day, not the same area for two successive days. This is necessary because if you train the same muscle set for two successive days, the area in question doesn’t get the necessary time to rest and mend the damage done during the work out. This repair time is what causes the muscles to grow, which is what you are trying to accomplish. Most professional bodybuilders don’t work out each and every day but, if you want to do so set up a system with your trainer that allows you to alternate which group of muscles, or specific body parts, you work on each day. Make sure to allow at least one day in between so the muscles can repair. You might want to work on your abs one day and your legs the next day; or your upper body and then your gluts. Keep it varied. Full body workouts, with a day of rest between training sessions for muscle recovery, are becoming very popular amount bodybuilders. You can find a lot of free workout routines and explanations on YouTube.

Bodybuilding will require hard work, because you can’t achieve a stunning physique just by wishing about it. When you’ve succeeded, you will be glad you put forth all the effort. Your health and energy will be better than ever, and you will have a body to be proud of.
